I was walking with a friend of mine the other day and he mentioned that he used to be a chain smoker. I asked him, "How did you quit?"
He said hypnosis. "Oh, really?" I exclaimed. "How does that work?"
He said he made an appointment based on a friend's recommendation, had a few sessions and that was it. Although quitting cold turkey like that wasn't the easiest thing he's done, it wasn't that hard either.
Although most of us have HEARD of hypnosis working for a variety of problems, this was the first person I had met that actually had done it - successfully.
I had learned a little about self hypnosis years ago, but never did anything with it.
Now I'm ready to explore the opportunities again! I found a great website for self hypnosis cds and instant downloads. It's not run by a charlatan that's just selling other peoples products - she's an actual Master Hypnotherapist and makes all the cds herself.
I decided to order a product (so many to choose from!) and give it a try. I must admit, I love her voice! And the background music (or in this case-bells)was perfect! Her suggestions weren't beyond what I thought I could accomplish and were filled with practical tips and advice.
I did have some problems getting my body to cooperate. For some reason, it just would NOT relax - my legs would twitch or I'd start getting itchy everywhere or I'd have a terrible time staying still even for a few minutes. It took several sessions just to get myself to relax properly. Hopefully, you won't have those problems.
Even with all my twitching and moving, I still was able to focus on her voice and do the exercises. Now that I can relax, I'm looking forward to really seeing some benefit from this. I'll keep you posted.
Will self hypnosis work for you? Hard to say - especially if you don't try it.
The cost is inexpensive and who's going to know you are doing it? A short 20 minute session once or twice a day and you could be on your way to getting rid that problem area in your life.
At the very least, you'll be spending some time on quality relaxation, something all of us could use.
