It isn’t often that I read a book that inspires me to be better and to do better. I have read so many self help books, that I’ve become a bit jaded, I’m afraid.
How Would Love Respond? by Kurek Ashley is a well written and refreshing breath of fresh air.
From the first page, it grips your attention as he begins to tell the story of the life-changing event in his life that inspired the book.
He’s a great storyteller, and as he continues to weave his history, I was beginning to wonder - “So where is all the self-help stuff?”
It’s there. If you’ve read a lot of self improvement books, you’ve probably heard most of what he covers. What makes this book unique is the style and personal “spin” he puts on a many of the concepts you may have heard before. Here is one section early on I found particularly amusing:
I Already Know All This Stuff
If you’re thinking, “Oh, I’ve already heard all of this before,” …the question I have for you is this: “Are you doing it?” (touché)
I didn’t agree completely with everything he said (by the way, it’s OKAY not to agree with everything an author says and still enjoy the book), but it all made good practical sense. And I loved how he was able to give examples of each principal from an event in his own life.
He follows that with solid, practical advice in a step-by-step fashion. I’ll be surprised if you don’t find SOMETHING in the book that makes you jump up and say, “I can do that!” and really spurs you to action.
Even the last chapter is a surprise ending and really resonated with me, having experienced something similar myself. ( Resist the urge to turn to the last chapter, will you?)
This is not a re-hash of the same old self help stuff. I’m sure you’ll find this truly inspirational and more importantly, I hope it spurs you to action!
Enjoy!
