The Six Steps to Sleep Now
The key to quality sleep
I have always had a little trouble nodding off, so when this
sleep hygiene book appeared in my inbox for review I was eager
to give it a go. Not to mention that I share the same last name
as the author.
What is Good Sleep Hygiene?
Good sleep hygiene is basically good sleep practice, a
collection of organic methods for getting a good night’s sleep.
Sleep hygiene readjusts the body into a good sleeping pattern
promoting deeper, more restful sleep.
About the Book
The Six Steps to Sleep Now is a result of Litchfield’s
sleepless teens and 20s. All the advice in the book is tried
and tested and responsible for changing his life from stressed
zombie to happy human. The course itself is fairly basic
in structure, more a practical list of recommendations, but
like all things that are good for us the implementation part is
the hardest, so it certainly helps to have a plan set out for
you. The Six Steps program starts immediately without the usual
extended eBook waffle, which is useful for those desperately
seeking better sleep without having to dig too deep inside the
book – and I am please to report that it does work.
Does It Work?
I experienced very deep dream filled sleep within about four
days of starting the course. I must admit I only stuck to it
for 2 weeks because I was forced to be up very late a few
nights in a row, although I slipped back into a decent sleeping
pattern quickly after so the course may well have helped.
What I found incredibly useful are the chapters provided
after the course. The book breaks into 9 useful chapters all
offering practical advice for achieving better sleep in a
number of given situations. The chapters are as follows:
Chapter 1 - Working with your Natural Cycle
Chapter 2 - Waking Up During the Night
Chapter 3 - Stress, Anxiety and Sleep
Chapter 4 - Sleeping the Night before a Big Occasion
Chapter 5 - Napping
Chapter 6 - Sleeping with a Partner
Chapter 7 - Smoking and Sleep
Chapter 8 - Alcohol and Sleep
Chapter 9 - Sleeping on an Airplane
I found these chapters insightful and helpful; it isn’t
until you read the book that you realize just how many of these
things do affect the quality of your sleep on a regular basis.
The website itself also contains some interesting sleep related
articles, covering things like diet, sleepwalking, tea,
meditation and more. And you can also get some freebies by
entering your email address into the opt-in box on the front
page.
In Summary
I enjoyed this book and it certainly is a worthy investment.
Better sleep means more productivity and general happiness, two
essential aspects of self development. It isn’t clear why this
book hasn’t been published in paperback format. It is one of
only a couple of books on this subject and the only one
dedicated solely to sleep hygiene. Still we may see it on
Amazon in the future.
